Prostate Cancer May Respond To A Low-Fat Diet

As men age they generally live in fear of getting prostate cancer. This can be a devastating illness which can result in severe pain and suffering and premature death. And, so men are always searching for naturally safe manners to prevent prostate cancer or to treat this illness if it strikes. Bioscience Technology reported on Nov. 19, 2013, that a low-fat diet changes prostate cancer tissue. UCLA researchers found that men with prostate cancer who ate a low-fat diet and took fish oil supplements had lower levels of pro-inflammatory substances in their blood.

Mayo Clinic notes that prostate cancer is one of the most common types of cancer which occurs in men. Prostate cancer generally grows slowly and initially remains confined to the prostate gland, where it may not cause any serious harm. Although some types of prostate cancer grow slowly and may need only minimal or no treatment, other types of prostate cancer are very aggressive and can spread quickly. Prostate cancer has been recognized as a leading cause of death among men in the United States. It's estimated that greater than 230,000 American men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year alone, and more than 29,000 will die from this disease.

Aside from lower levels of pro-inflammatory substances in their blood, men with prostate cancer who ate a low-fat diet and took fish oil supplements also had a lower cell cycle progression score, which is a measure used to predict cancer recurrence, than men who ate a typical Western diet. Lead study author Dr William Aronson, has said these findings are significant because lowering the cell cycle progression (CCP) score has the potential to help prevent prostate cancers from becoming more aggressive. These findings offer promise for safe nutritional approaches to help deal with prostate cancer.

Men Who Have Sex With Men And Women (MSMW) And Public Health

A recent study published in the Journal of Preventative Medicine this past June argues that the public health community has not paid enough attention to the needs of bisexual men. In Beyond the Bisexual Bridge, author William Jeffries IV, PhD suggests that men who have sex with men and women (MSMW) are often seen as transmitters of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) including HIV.
Bisexual Men Are Not 'Closet Gays', They Really Do Like Men AND Women

The issue at hand is that MSMW are seen as the main way in which certain diseases or epidemics jump from gay men to heterosexuals of both sexes. Jeffries believes that by looking at them as disease vectors and not a population with their own sexual health issues we are making bisexual men more vulnerable to STIs. Although only about two percent of the male population identifies as MSMW, the study indicates that their sexual health needs and experiences are different from those of heterosexual or straight men.

MSMW have a greater chance of experiencing early sexual debut, forced sexual encounters, and sex in exchange for money or something else of value. MSMW tend to have more sexual partners, greater issues with substance abuse, and take more risks in sex with both male and female partners. Because of personal safety issues, adolescent MSMW are more likely to drop out of school. According to the study, this may be one of the reasons that adult MSMW are less likely to have a college degree and more likely to have lower incomes or be homeless.

Jeffries attributes many of these issues to biphobia. Biphobia comes from both gay and heterosexual people who feel that bisexuality is not a legitimate sexual orientation. The view of bisexuals as the STI “bridge” between communities heightens biphobia and may cause MSMW to take additional risks.

MSMW may feel socially isolated and feel psychological distress, which in turn may promote HIV/STI risk through substance use, risky sexual behaviors, and the avoidance of prevention services. Jeffries suggests creating community social spaces that provide opportunities for social support and discussion of sexual health concerns. One such place is an online dating community like PositiveSingles.com created for people with Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs).

Positive Singles is the largest online community and dating website for people with STDs. Launched in 2001, it is for people who live with STDs like HIV, Herpes (HSV), or HPV. Since it's launch, they have seen an incredible growth in its membership and their daily active members. Currently, it has over 800,000 members worldwide, and over 15,000 daily active members.

Another solution that Jeffries suggests are various social and public health strategies that include media and educational campaigns. He believes that these can improve the health and well-being of MSMW. He believes that medical and health professionals need sensitivity trainings because of the hostile environments MSMW encounter when they seek information about sexual health or HIV/STI testing.

Men Who Have Sex With Both Men And Women Experience More Health Problems

Jeffries concludes the study by stating that, “Recognition of MSMW’s unique sexual and social experiences can lay the foundation necessary for ensuring that these men have healthy and fulfilling sexual experiences.”

TENS Device Proven To Relieve Short-Term And Chronic Pain

Do you have chronic pain or muscle soreness? Are you looking for a drug-free way to manage your pain? The TENS 3000 device is a simple, effective, drug-free and inexpensive way to reduce or eliminate your pain.

Chronic Back Pain TENS Device

Check this Article: Penile Implant Surgery in India

What is it?

Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) electronic stimulators have been used by physical therapists, sports therapists and chiropractors for years as a drug-free method of relief from short-term and chronic muscle pain. Fortunately now, the same technology is available for home-use for less than the cost of your co-pay at the specialist’s office.

The TENS 3000 device is a portable, analog, easy-to-use device used successfully by medical professionals, serious athletes or the average person looking to alleviate symptoms of chronic pain or short-term pain.

In most cases, the device works to reduce or eliminate the pain. The device is battery operated (9-volt) and can be used in any area of the body suggested by your healthcare professional, such as the back, shoulders, or knees.

How does it work?

Pain is our body’s method of telling us that something is wrong. Pain doesn’t begin until a coded message travels from the site through your spinal cord to your brain. Your brain decodes the message and tells the body, through your nerves, that pain is felt. This device interrupts those signals and modifies your brain’s perception of pain. It’s a simple but effective solution that can offer hours of relief or even eliminate pain completely.

You apply the electrodes to the site of your pain, and the device then sends electrical impulses to the electrodes. Those millions of tiny, fast impulses entering your body will travel through your spinal cord and to your brain faster than your pain signals. Because your brain can only register a limited amount of signals, the pain signals are outnumbered by the millions of soothing electrical impulses. The unit also stimulates the brain to generate release of the body’s naturally occurring painkillers (opioids): endorphins, enkephalins, and dynorphins.

Pulse Modes

The TENS 3000 has three different pulse modes. Each mode releases pulses which stimulate different types of relief from pain.

Standard mode’s pleasant continuous flow of pulses slows down pain signals, and produces numbness in the area that can last for hours.

Burst mode’s rhythmic pulses cause muscle reflex activity—muscle twitching—by pulsing twice every second. The brain becomes preoccupied and concentrates on the active muscle twitching and essentially ignores the pain signals. This reflex activity over a longer period also stimulates the brain’s release of natural opioids, offering hours of natural pain relief.

Modulate mode’s preoccupies the nerves by a cycle of pulse frequency and intensity.

Time Duration

The onset of pain relief can take at least 30 minutes, depending on your level of pain. The unit is pre-equipped with 15 minute, 30 minute, and continuous duration settings. The TENS device can be used safely and continuously for several hours or as long as your doctor advises—up to 36 hours in some cases. One battery can last up to 50 hours.

Features

The kit comes with everything you need—even the battery. The electrode pads may lose some of their adhesive qualities after several uses, but replacement pads can be purchased—we recommend the premium silver electrode pads. Other extras can be purchased additionally, such as skin prep wipes, pain relief gel, and rechargeable batteries.

Would I recommend it?

Yes. Regardless of your pain level, it is worth a try. The fact that it is a proven drug-free way to help manage pain, combined with the features, ease-of-use, and affordable price, makes the TENS 3000 unit a great—if not the best—deal. It is available for purchase through various companies and websites selling medical supplies.

Marine Phytoplankton Improves Memory, Cognition, Immune System & More

Marine Phytoplankton is the highest plant source of the long chain omega-3 essential fatty acids -there are long chains, which are the hardest to find, and short chains of omega-3 essential fatty acids EPA and DHA. Its abundant health benefits certainly do not end there, though. If you are wondering what exactly Marine Phytoplankton are, they are tiny creatures in the sea responsible for providing nutrition, and therefore life to thousands of different ocean species. When taken as a supplement, phytoplankton is rich in ten amino acids, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin A, B vitamins and minerals such as calcium, copper, iodine, manganese, magnesium, potassium and zinc. As you can see, there is a legitimate reason why many people have included Marine Phytoplankton as a vital supplement in their journeys to optimum health and vibrant lives for centuries.

Marine Phytoplankton Powder

Certain groups of people are at high risk for developing an omega-3 deficiency including vegetarians, and especially vegans. Typically, when you adopt such diets, your body has difficulty in obtaining ideal EPA and DHA levels, since these omega-3s are absent from plant derived foods. Some will argue that flax seeds and oil contain the omega-3 alpha-linoleic acid (ALA), and they are right. However, ALA from flax seeds or flax seed oil is converted very slowly into EPA and DHA. For these reasons, people who eat little or no cold-water fish may wish to determine their omega-3 status by supplementing with marine phytoplankton.

If you think you have escaped this one because you consume high amounts of fish, think again. Surprisingly, many who consume high quantities of fish also suffer from sub-optimal omega-3 status. Our world’s increasingly industrialized food chain now produces a substantial portion of its harvest from mega fish-farms, where the unnatural diet of soy and grain meal the fish are given greatly diminishes the omega-3 content of their flesh. Farmed fish are completely dependent on their feed. If it does not contain EPA and DHA, the fish will not contain it in high levels like wild fish. In the wild, fish obtain EPA and DHA from marine algae and phytoplankton. Then, larger fish consume then and so on. In fact, one of the greatest ironies in the world is that the single celled marine phytoplankton supports and feeds the largest mammal known to mankind, the majestic blue whale.

Disturbingly, large quantities of farm raised fish containing only minute traces of EPA and DHA fatty acids have basically become the normal. This is why it is so important to stay informed on such information, and to adjust your diet and supplementation accordingly. According to a 2008 sampling survey of farmed fish, tilapia and catfish have much lower concentrations of omega-3s, very high ratios of omega-6 to omega-3, and higher amounts of saturated and monounsaturated fats than omega-3. This is a perfect example of just how unhealthy a seemingly healthy meal can be. As time goes on, this only seems to get worse. We are not doomed, as long as we use our brains to stay informed and avoid what I like to call “health illusions.”

Other characteristics of Marine Plankton that may benefit those struggling with health issues include:

Ø  EPA and DHA derived from a plant source
Ø  Equipped with nutrients that provide the body what it needs to grow new, healthy cells
Ø  Antioxidant support
Ø  Ramps up your energy
Ø  Strengthens immune response
Ø  Helps the body with natural detoxification
Ø  Offers anti-inflammatory support
Ø  Offers cardiovascular support
Ø  Aids in digestive function
Ø  Improves cognitive health and functioning
Ø  Is a plant source of protein
Ø  Alkalizes the body

Strengthen Pelvic Floor Muscles With These Exercises

The Pelvic floor muscles are like a hammock that runs under the pelvis and supports the organs of the lower abdomen - the bladder, uterus, and rectum. Strong pelvic floor muscles are important to stabilize the pelvis and provide core strength for both men and women.

Core Exercises for Strengthening

Incontinence and lower back pain can often be caused by weak pelvic floor muscles. This is especially prevalent as people age and muscles naturally weaken. To keep the pelvic floor strong try these simple at home exercises:

Ø  Low bridge - Lie on the floor on your back, bend the knees so the feet are flat about hip distance apart, place the hands by the hips palms down, and press through heels to lift the hips off of the floor (lift no higher than shoulder blades). As you are lifting squeeze the pelvic muscles in and up (like you are stopping the flow of urine) and lower back down slowly. Repeat for fifteen repetitions.

Ø  Butterfly crunches - Sit on the floor with the legs in bound angle pose or butterfly. (Knees bent, legs open, and the soles of the feet together.) Lie all the way back keeping the feet together. Place the hands behind the head and relax the head back into the hands. Tip the pelvis to lift the legs off the floor while still in butterfly position. Begin to crunch in a slow controlled motion. Repeat for fifteen repetitions before lowering the legs.

Ø  Hip opener - Lie on the floor on your back and bend the knees so the feet are flat. Bring the feet all the way together and place the hands by the hips palms down. Inhale and open the knees as wide as is comfortable. Exhale and bring knees back together while squeezing the pelvic muscles in and up. Repeat for fifteen repetitions.

Lower Back Exercises for Pelvic Floor

P
erform these exercises two to three times per week. Notice any improvement in bladder control or pain levels. Add more repetitions as the muscles get stronger and the exercises become easier.

Diabetes: A Global Epidemic That We CAN Fix

According to the Centers for Disease Control , a recently released report on Diabetes, states there are at least 29 million people living in the U.S. with diabetes; 28% of these patients are undiagnosed. In a study done from 2009 to 2012, 37% of adults in the U.S. were considered pre-diabetic based on fasting glucose and A1C levels. This equates to 86 million Americans who will become diabetic if something doesn't change.

Diagnosis and Management of Diabetes

These estimates, according to Dr. Ann Albright, director of the CDC's Division of Diabetes Translation, were further elaborated on in a statement, "Diabetes is costly in both human and economic terms. If we do nothing, and the numbers continue to rise, 1 in 5 people will have diabetes by the year 2025, and possibly 1 in 3 by 2050, if we elect to do nothing to stop the progression of this disease.”

Diabetes, both uncontrolled and/or undiagnosed, can lead to a complex set of diseases. Often, these diseases come with life threatening complications. Cardiovascular disease ( heart disease, and stroke) as well as kidney damage, blindness and nerve damage can be attributed to improperly cared for diabetes.

Despite these grim statistics, there is much a person can do to reduce their risk of prediabetes/diabetes. Proper nutrition, weight loss, increased activity, stress reduction, and smoking cessation are all simple ways to reduce personal risk. Medication compliance and proper monitoring of diabetes can also reduce the risk of complications. Diabetes is a chronic disease, yet controllable situation.

Diabetics Protected From High Traffic Pollution

Oral diabetes solutions are more compelling than insulin in shielding diabetics from the unfavorable impacts of high activity contamination, says a study. Study members in Puerto Rico who utilized insulin and lived beside streets with substantial movement had especially expanded C-reactive protein (CRP), a marker of irritation, contrasted with those living in lower activity territories.

Oral Medic Diabetes Solutions  Better Protects Diabetics From Pollution

People taking oral diabetes pharmaceuticals did not experience increments in CRP focus. "CRP focus expanded 75-200 percent over the two-year period for those 10 percent of study members living in the most elevated movement ranges who were utilizing insulin when contrasted with those living in lower activity zones," said first and relating creator Christine Rioux, research partner educator at the Tufts University School of Medicine in the US.

"Interestingly, CRP fixation did not increment for the 22 percent of individuals taking metformin and/or other oral diabetes pharmaceuticals who were likewise living in the high activity territories," Rioux noted. Of the 356 members in the study, 91 (26 percent) utilized insulin, 197 (55 percent) utilized just oral diabetes prescription and 68 (19 percent) reported utilizing no diabetes pharmaceutical. CRP was measured toward the start of the study and again after two years, utilizing a high affectability test. "It is imperative to know who is most powerless against the unfriendly impacts of activity contamination presentation for purposes of training and arrangement," Rioux noted.

Individuals who live close by occupied streets and invest the greater part of their time in these zones have been demonstrated in numerous studies to have larger amounts of aggravation, a danger element for some cardiovascular and metabolic illnesses. "This study is essential in light of the fact that numerous individuals who live close to parkways may have diabetes and different genuine constant conditions," Mkaya Mwamburi from the Tufts University School of Medicine brought up. "It is intriguing to see that medications for diabetes may interface with the dangers connected with introduction to air contamination," Mwamburi said. The study said that it is not clear why oral diabetes meds, dissimilar to insulin, give off an impression of being defensive and it warrants extra research. The study was distributed online in the journal of Environmental Pollution.

Is There Any Relation Between Menopause and Age Factor?

What is Menopause?

Menopause often refers to the time in a life a woman's ovaries stops producing egg every four weeks. With her monthly period absent, this also means that she will no longer bear a child. This time is also known as the end of the fertile days.

Menopause Hot Flashes

What Triggers Menopause?

Menopause is often caused by the aging of the body. This aging means that our body is no longer functioning as it were before. Hormonal imbalance starts to rise and affect the woman's body systematically. The imbalance on sex hormones is caused by the hormone estrogen. Estrogen decreases, which in turn causes the cessation on the production of egg cells in the ovaries. The fall of this hormone causes both the physical and emotional symptoms of menopause. So basically, what triggers menopause is the fall in the hormone estrogen.

Symptoms of Menopause

Menopause typically is accompanied with physiologic as well as metabolic symptoms that are felt by a woman upon reaching the age of forty and beyond. These symptoms are associated by the sudden change in the hormonal balance and vasomotor responses of a woman that is menopausal. Here are the common symptoms that a woman feels:

Ø  profuse night sweats;
Ø  irritability and mood swings;
Ø  water retention and weight gain;
Ø  fatigue and muscle pains;
Ø  vaginal itching and discharge;
Ø  Dyspareunia or painful sexual intercourse associated with vaginal dryness;
Ø  Irregular menses;
Ø  Slouching of the posture related to osteoporosis.

At What Age Does a Woman Typically Reach Menopause?

As a rule, menopause happens in the life of an adult woman at the average of forty five until fifty two years old. Nevertheless, this may begin as early as the woman reaches the age of forty and may go as late as the age of fifty five. Be it noted that the median women's age for menopausal period is fifty one years.

What Conditions Can Affect The Timing Of Menopause?

There are certain medical as well surgical conditions that can greatly influence the timing of menopause depending on the severity of the condition.

Ø  Total abdominal hysterectomy of bilateral salphingo oopherectomy. This is known as the total removal of the woman's internal reproductive organs due to certain diseases like cancer and irreversible bleeding after a woman's childbirth. However, there are instances wherein the reproductive organs are not totally removed but only the diseased part are removed such as hysterectomy (the removal of the uterus) or oopherectomy (the removal of the ovaries. When these are done surgically, the woman will cease to ovulate and will experience an induced immediate menopause. The onset of the signs and symptoms of a normal menopause becomes abrupt and sometimes severe.
Ø  Premature ovarian failure. This medical condition may affect the timing of menopause and can make it appear earlier than the age of forty. Basically, this is related to autoimmune and genetic factors. However, it is a good thing that this occurs only among one percent of all the women in the population.

How Lifestyle as Young Adult May Affect Age of Menopause?

The woman's lifestyle as a young adult may greatly affect the onset of menopause. Some of these factors are triggered by smoking, alcoholism, sedentary lifestyle as well as lack of exercise. According to recent studies, it has been found out that menopause is strongly interconnected by a woman's body mass index prior to menopause. Thus, being overweight that is predisposed by habits such as sedentary lifestyle and alcoholism will tend to make menopause appear earlier in the woman's life. Furthermore, the fatty tissues and cholesterol build up in the body tends to affect the production of sex hormones particularly estrogen.

Treatment Options for Menopause

Hormonal Replacement Therapy

There are hormonal and non hormonal treatment for menopause and the need for these often vary from woman to woman.

Ø  Hormonal Replacement Therapy is used to replenish the estrogen hormone in the body to avoid or eliminate the symptoms associated with menopause such as hot flashes and night sweats. This is taken with progestin hormone for its fuller effect.
Ø  Vitamin supplementations are also helpful to alleviate the symptoms experienced by a menopausal woman. This includes calcium supplements for osteoporosis.

Bottom Line

Therefore, it can be deduced that age and menopause are closely linked with each other. It is a great determinant as to when menopause will be triggered to come. However, there are multiple factors that can influence the onset of menopause such as sedentary lifestyle, smoking and alcoholism.

Don't Believe the Fitness and Nutrition Myths

While there is an abundance of readily available material online and in magazines about getting into shape and staying fit, there is just as much flawed information that misguides hopeful health-seekers every day. The steps taken for “Good Health” that seem too good to be true probably are just that-too good to be true! Here are a few myths that need to be uncovered and passed on in order to reap the benefits of working hard and maintaining discipline.

Lifting Weights Will Make You Bulky

1. Lifting Weights Will Make You Bulky

This is the most common complaint of women who dread achieving the extremely muscular frame of bodybuilders through using resistance exercises, and it couldn’t be farther from the truth. It is important to note that in using resistance exercise, the weight can be manipulated to create lean muscle, and a tighter, more toned body while burning fat throughout the day. Cardio alone may help decrease fat stores, but it will not aid in strength or toning to the body’s potential.

2. Organic, Gluten, Sugar, and Fat Free Foods are Healthy

Beware of the marketing scams used by manufacturers that claim these words on the label of their product. While it seems obvious that something with less of a “bad” ingredient will help you feel better or lose weight, there could (and most likely) will be another ingredient with worse properties lurking in the food label to replace what has been taken out. When eating anything from a package, carefully scrutinize every ingredient to rest assured it complies with the healthy lifestyle you want to live.

3. Carbs Make You Fat

There is some truth to carbs creating fat, because they can. Without a doubt, eating too much sugar, even in healthier complex carbohydrates like fruits, oatmeal, and whole grain bread can lead to fat accumulation if not used immediately for fuel in the body or when not living an active lifestyle. Insulin is used when blood sugar rises and will direct the sugar either to working muscle or to fat cells when there is an excessive amount not being utilized by muscles. With this in mind, eating this macronutrient in quantities according to lifestyle and fitness goals is suggested.

4. You Must Spend 30 Minutes Working Out Every Day

There is no one amount of time for exercise that yields the best results for everyone. Success does not come in a one-size-fits-all plan. Take into account the type of exercise, workout schedule, intensity, and goals. For example, a regimen that consists of working out for an hour just walking may decrease fat weight and will be healthy for one looking for a low-intensity cardio day, while a regimen with short-duration, intense exercises in multiple different workouts will yield a variety of results.

5. Your Diet Has To Start on Monday

Where did this theory even come from? Decide who and what you want to be, shop accordingly, and be aware of what is being consumed. Start now.

What you Should be Eating to Combat Cancer

In today's lifestyle, cancer causing carcinogens are everywhere. It is no surprise that the risk of cancer is growing daily. According to the American Cancer Society an estimated 1.6 million new cases of cancer are being diagnosed in 2014 alone. Hence forth, it is increasingly important to understand the foods that will help to combat cancer causing agents.

Eating more fibre-filled foods could reduce your risk of ovarian cancer

The most talked about and the strongest evidence of cancer fighting foods point to the benefits of adding plant based foods to your diet such as vegetables, fruits, beans, whole grains and a variety of herbs. Laboratory tests administered by the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR) demonstrate that many individual minerals and phytochemicals have an anti-cancer effect. Some of the most touted foods include: berries, turmeric and broccoli.

Berries are an easy and delicious addition to any diet. High in ellegic acid, a phytochemical that helps to prevent many various cancers from breast to bladder. The powerful antioxidant fruit is also chock full of vitamin C and fiber which is known to protect against cancer. Among the most talked about cancer fighting foods is turmeric. Extensive research by the Life Extension Foundation found that that turmeric targets 10 causative factors involved in cancer development. Chronic inflammation, DNA damage and disruption of cell signaling pathways are an example of these. Cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli have been known to halt the ability of cancer growth through a phytochemical called sulforaphane. Sulforaphane stimulates enzymes that detoxify cancer cells helping to prevent tumors.

How long your lifestyle habits will keep you alive

Life expectancy has been increasing since as long as records have been kept. It also might interest you that women have continued to outlive men year after year. How come? What's the secret?

Actuarial research done by Northwestern Mutual yields some eye-opening news about life expectancy based on 13 factors that, if you are like me, will have you considering lifestyle adjustments because each of the 13 questions in the exam shows you at once how it may affect your longevity up or down. Don't know about you, but when I can move my life expectancy a considerable amount with a tiny adjustment that has been proven effective, I want to know because I'm going to do it.
13 Factors Of Lifestyle

For instance, I am 70 and factoring in my weight and height with my age I can expect to live to 83.

But adding in the other 10 factors about my lifestyle and family history yields even more interesting results. What is neat about the test is the results are instantaneous. Mine are good but aside from having almost died in 2009 from Kidney Failure, from which I got very lucky having managed to get off Kidney Dialysis, I am planning to stay alive a long time and every little detail such as this Northwest Mutual test is, in my opinion, extremely worthwhile if it shows me anything that I don't already know and that I can painlessly implement into my lifestyle

I suggest everybody take this short test that may prove to be an eye-opener for you. I would not overlook it or sniff at it for its simplicity. I genuinely learned some things that I am going to implement into to my lifestyle and hope you do as well.

Surprise, surprise, surprise

My previous column mentioned the rather new supplement known as Bromelain. I became interested because I had suffered some truly brutal damage to my upper body and head. Lost my memory and had the most hideous bruising and discoloration of my face and skin ever in my life.

I lost my memory, which is scary stuff so be extra careful with head injury risks.

I actually looked like I was going to a KISS concert and my face made up accordingly. People who know me well could not recognize me because my face was so beat up and discolored.

I mention the above not to brag about almost being killed, but to get around to the following.
I started to heal extremely quickly and somebody at my gym asked if I had been taking Bromelain because she said she heard it works like a miracle on severe bruises and inflammation. So today I was reading about a Turmeric formula that is supposed to be really fantastic, and of all things it contains Bromelain. I already take it and have for some time, which made me at once think maybe I healed so quickly because I was taking the Bromelain which is present in the Turmeric formula shown here.
I'm going to write about Bromelain pretty soon and I hope you watch for it or search for it yourself because it just might be something to know about for bruises, inflammation, and injuries.

Speaking of searching

If you don't mind me offering a suggestion, if you don't already you should watch the CPR brush-up quickie video on this page once a week or thereabouts. It takes four minutes to watch and I promise you will feel happy with yourself if you ever get to save somebody's life.

Disrupted sleep could increase risk of Alzheimer's disease

Recent research has shown the importance of sleep for a variety of health reasons, but new research is showing that lack of sleep or waking up several times during the night may increase your chances of developing Alzheimer’s.

Sleep

Check this Article: Penile Implant Surgery in India

Alzheimer’s disease is a type of dementia that creates issues with thinking, behavior and memory. A sticky plaque called beta-amyloid builds up in the spaces between the nerve cells, causing toxicity in the brain. A study in the journal JAMA Neurology has discovered that disrupted sleep can actually increase this plaque in the brain.

Subjects over the age of 70 were studied as part of the Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging. Those who reported getting the least amount of sleep (less than five hours per night) and those who reported experiencing waking multiple times during the night were discovered to have more beta-amyloid plaque buildup once imaging scans were performed of their brains. This increased buildup could be a key indicator for Alzheimer’s disease risk.

Sleep studies have also discovered that those with sleep apnea (a sleep disorder that is characterized by pausing in breathing during sleep) have double the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.
The good news is that troubled sleep or trouble staying asleep (also known as sleep maintenance insomnia) is treatable, and this new information could be vital in protecting seniors’ brains. The average adult should be getting seven to eight hours of sleep per night. It is well known that troubled sleep causes difficulties in focus and learning the following day, and we are coming to find out this could be related to dying brain cells.

This importance of this work lies in overwhelming amount of expected Alzheimer’s cases to develop in the coming years as the baby boomer generation will be approaching their 70’s. More than 5 million Americans have already been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, and that number is expected to climb to more than double in the United States by the year 2050, and according to the World Health Organization, more than triple globally, reaching an estimated 115.4 million cases.

Nearly one in five adults over 65 drink daily, not without risk

A July 2014 study by consumer analysts, The Mintel Group, concludes 18 percent of people over age of 65 drink daily. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says one in ten in this age group is a binge drinker. Not every daily or binge drinker is alcoholic, however there are considerations aside from the disease of alcoholism:

Middle-aged drinking more than the young

Ø  There’s a three times higher rate of depression compared to non-drinking seniors;
Ø  Drinkers have a three times greater risk of hip fracture; and
Ø  Drinkers past the retirement age have a 16 times greater likelihood of a suicide attempt compared to a non-drinker.

There are drug interactions as well, as highlighted in a previous episode, and as people age they generally are prescribed more medications and take more over the counter remedies. All in, more than 120 meds have an adverse reaction to alcohol.

Statistics on alcohol-related deaths in older adults are not entirely accurate, although they point to a higher toll than the under-60 crowd. Take for example, a retiree who has a wicked fall following a drinking episode or an alcohol/drug interaction. The medical examiner's “cause of death” would be a head injury. What caused the head injury? Or more to the point, what caused the fall? Back to an earlier stat: Why do drinkers have a higher likelihood of hip fracture? Not just because old age weakens bone, but because alcohol compromises an already compromised sense of balance.

A July 2015 British Medical Journal study noted that those over age 50 who are active, social and well-off are drinking more – a “middle class phenomenon” which may be a hidden health and social problem in otherwise successful older people. What may skew all the stats on the extent of drinking in older adults is that maybe they’re drinking the same as ever before (which would be bad news or no news) but now they’re wise enough to admit to problem drinking and seek help for alcohol use disorders that nobody solves on their own (and that's good news).
